Welcome Guide (Young People)

Brightsky Youth Services

Welcome to Brightsky

Moving into a new home can feel like a big change. At Brightsky, we want you to feel safe, welcome, respected and supported.

When you arrive, we will show you around your new home, introduce you to the people who will support you, and explain how everything works. You will have a named Support Worker who will get to know you, listen to what is important to you and help you work towards your goals.

Together, we will create your Support Plan and discuss the goals you want to achieve while living at Brightsky.

Your Rights and Entitlements

While living at Brightsky, you have the right to:

Feel safe and be protected from harm

Be treated fairly, with dignity and respect

Be listened to and have your views taken seriously

Be involved in decisions about your life and support

Understand your Support Plan and take part in reviewing it

Have your culture, religion, language, identity and individual needs respected

Access education, ESOL classes where appropriate, healthcare and community opportunities

Speak privately with your Social Worker, Personal Adviser, advocate or other trusted professional

Ask questions, raise concerns and make a complaint without being treated unfairly

Your First Days at Brightsky

When you first move in, you will meet your support worker and be shown around your new home. We will explain house rules, safety procedures and how things work day-to-day. You will take part in an induction so you understand who to speak to if you need help.

Together, we will begin creating your support plan, setting goals and talking about what you would like to achieve during your time with us.

Your Voice Matters

You have the right to be involved in decisions that affect you. We will encourage you to share your views during key work sessions, Support Plan reviews, young people’s meetings and other meetings about your future.

You can also speak with our Young People’s Advocate, who can help you understand your rights, express your views, raise a concern or make a complaint. Your feedback helps us improve Brightsky for you and other young people.

Living Together Safely

Every Brightsky home has clear expectations to help keep everyone safe and create a respectful place to live. Staff will explain these expectations when you arrive and help you understand them.

We ask you to respect your home, other young people, neighbours and staff; take part in agreed support sessions; and talk to us when you need help. We will work with you, not just tell you what to do, so you can develop confidence and take increasing responsibility for your future.

How We Support You

Your Rights and Support

You have the right to:

Be treated with respect

Be involved in decisions about your support

Get help when you need it

Support is always available from staff, advocacy services, and trusted professionals.

Your Rights & Speaking Up

You have the right to feel safe, respected and listened to. Brightsky is committed to making sure your voice is heard and that you understand how to get help when you need it.

Making a Complaint

If you are unhappy about something, you have the right to speak up and make a complaint. You can talk to your Support Worker, Team Leader, Team Manager or the Young People’s Advocate. Your complaint will be taken seriously, considered fairly and responded to within the agreed timescales.
If you are still unhappy, you can ask for support from your Social Worker, Personal Adviser, Independent Reviewing Officer, Children’s Rights Service or an independent advocate. You will also be given information about how to contact Ofsted, your Local Authority Complaints Team and the Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman, where appropriate.
You have the right to feel safe, to be heard and to be part of decisions about your life. At Brightsky, your voice matters.
